Solutions:
Some things to keep in mind: the highest level of red-colored defenses are strongest since they can defend against two targets at once; use of the blue defenses in high quantities is key in a strong defense, since they can slow down multiple units at once allowing for stronger defense from other nearby units. When possible, in choosing a bonus to use in earlier rounds, select the increased interest option to allow quicker obtaining of more effective defense. This Game Can Help Your Kids With Planning:
This game is good for kids who display difficulty with money management and planning how to complete a task, because:
- By effectively choosing the selection of tower defenses, as well as the position from which they are defending, players choose how they will try to win the game.
- Bonuses and saving allow for more success in the game as it progresses.
Talking Points:
- How do you earn money in Vector TD?
- How did planning and organizing allow you to purchase the appropriate towers?
- How can saving up for tools in Vector TD help you to think about planning and saving for something that you would like to buy?
Making it Real:
Use saving money as a planning opportunity by providing children with an allowance they agree to save a portion of for some type of future activity. This could be saving money in a bank account or saving to buy a costly item. As children become adept at beginning to save for the future, you may wish to add a third component, requiring them to divide money between a savings account, a spending account for future activities, and available cash for the present. It may also be useful to provide them with an allowance that they get regardless of performance of chores and activities, but with an opportunity to earn more with completion of additional chores or other jobs. This will encourage them to do further planning around activities or things that they would like to purchase.
Talking Points:
- How do you know where to place a tower?
- How did the availability of multiple tower options influence your choice of an effective defense?
- How is a choice of sequencing where to place towers similar to how to put the steps involved in doing a large school project in order?
Making it Real:
Construct lists of the steps necessary to complete activities. Many children have difficulty conceptualizing the multiple steps it takes to complete an activity such as a book report, making a meal and cleaning up after it, creating a Facebook or MySpace Page, or getting ready for a family vacation.
