Expression of Feelings
The ability accurately to express what one is feeling is critical to well-functioning relationships with others. Children with difficulties in expressing their feelings may come across as being unassertive and unsure of themselves, moody or outspoken. Some children report being unsure of what they are feeling, have difficulty in putting words to their feelings, or are overly concerned about the reaction of others. Alternatively, these youngsters may alienate others by being bossy, controlling, and verbally and physically aggressive.
Common indications of difficulties in expression of feelings include:
- Bossiness and controlling behaviors
- Temper tantrums and frequent arguments
- Moodiness, irritability, and oversensitivity
- Overly quiet and reserved
