HOW TO USE DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES TO HELP YOUR CHILD IMPROVE:
Organization & Planning
Organizational skills are fundamental for efficiency, accomplishment, and success at home and school. It is extremely common for children to report difficulties such as being forgetful, losing things, or wasting time due to disorganization. Other commonplace indications of organizational problems are seen when children report completing their homework but forgetting to return their assignments to their teachers, forgetting about long-term school assignments, or struggling to get ready for school or an outside activity because they cannot find their books and materials. Difficulties with organization are often seen in children who under-perform in school, daydream frequently, and are generally inefficient in completion of tasks.
Common indications of difficulties with goal setting include:
- Disorganized rooms, backpacks, and school lockers
- Losing one’s clothing, books, or personal possessions
- Problems keeping track of one’s schedule or activities
Further information about organization can be found in the LearningWorks for Kids.com sections on Organization, Planning, and Resources. Digital technologies can be used to support, practice, and enhance organizational skills at home. Parents are encouraged to utilize children’s other strengths, intelligences, and interests to assist them with their organizational difficulties. Digital technologies used in conjunction with parent, teacher, and peer mediation/involvement are helpful with the preceding list.
