For Educators
As the saying goes: if you can't beat them, join them. Every day, our students leave our classrooms and enter a digital world where they're listening to music, instant messaging their friends, playing games, surfing the web, and, yes: even doing their homework... all at the same time. The fact is that the kids of today's Net Generation are living more and more of their lives (and learning more and more about the world) in a digital universe that is completely separate from the paper and pencil world of their parents and schools. But it doesn't have to be that way.
While it is important, of course, to monitor and regulate children's digital interactions, it is equally important that we find ways to meet kids where they are, so that we can give them the same level of instruction and guidance in the digital world as we do in the world of classrooms and books. Only by becoming digitally engaged educators can we ever hope to teach our students how to be responsible citizens of the Internet age, and how to really get the most out of the amazing creative and educational potential that today's technologies have to offer.
That's where LearningWorks for Kids comes in. Here at LWK, our team of educators and psychologists have made it our mission to help teachers learn how to use video games and digital technologies to improve children’s thinking and academic skills. Our Playing Smarter curricula utilize interactive web-tutorials, detailed lesson plans, and popular video games to teach vital skills such as organization, planning, memory, self-control, focus, and many others. Our “Beyond Games” section reaches out into all areas of technology to help teachers and parents use the latest gadgets, software, and the websites to develop these crucial skills, as well. Together, we'll work to make your classroom a place where kids can not only feel at home in the digital universe, but can learn how to thrive there, too.
