In addition to video and computer games and other Internet-based technologies, there are a number of other high-tech and low-tech tools that can be help to support, practice and develop executive functions in children. Some of these tools are directly designed for youngsters with executive difficulties, such as Cogmed Working Memory training and neurofeedback. Other technologies, such as DVDs, television, cell phones, iPods, and digital cameras, can also be used in the teaching of executive functions. Low-tech tools such as puzzles, mazes, and board games also serve as opportunities to practice and develop executive function skills.
LearningWorks for Kids provides regular updates and guides for new games and technologies that are beneficial to youngsters with executive difficulties. We have a number of innovative ideas that facilitate combining high- and low-tech solutions to executive difficulties. Our interactive website encourages kids to tell us how they are using the newest toys and gadgets to practice and develop executive functions. Our staff of high school and college students reviews new and old as well as high- and low-tech tools that encourage the use of executive skills. From these reviews, we provide coaching guides to help generalize those skills to the kids’ real world.
